Participating Choirs

Männerchor der Keramik Laufen AG (The Male Choir of Keramik Laufen AG) was founded officially in  1944 – actually it had already existed in 1938 as a group of people united by their love for singing who were performing during company trips and other events.

Nowadays it is the only  active male company choir in Switzerland financially supported by the company  - there are 40 active singers and conductor in the ensemble. Since 2016 they have been directed by Myron Akermann from  Fehren.

The choir sings songs they enjoy and that bring pleasure to the public. The focus is on camaraderie and sociability. Annually, there are around 25 rehearsals  and 10 performances. The club life is characterized by joint rehearsals and performances with the singer-colleagues of the Host Choirs of Basel, singing in churches of the region, at festivals as well as other festivities.

Ekenäs Manskör (Ekenäs Male Choir) is active in the small town Ekenäs located in the southwestern corner of Finland. That specific part of Finland has a conciderable Swedish speaking population, concequently the choir uses Swedish as its working language.

Ekenäs Manskör was founded in 1926. For the time being it consists of 41 members, of which 28 male singers take part in this festival. In addition 4 singers from the neighboring town Hangö enforce the ensemble.

Hans Mecklin is the director of Ekenäs Manskör and Solveig Kronström functions as vice director. With exception of summertime the choir practises every week and performs 4 - 5 times a year. The repertoire for the actual season consists mainly of Finnish music appropriate for concerts in churches. They have also songs suitable for singing outside, for example at a market place.

The Mixed Choir Choir Ivan Kukuljević Sakcinski from the Špansko District in Zagreb has been working as a section of an Association of the same name since 2001. The choir has thirty members and works under the expert guidance of Mr. Dorian Leopold.

They enjoy singing   sacral, folk, patriotic songs as well as  works by domestic and foreign authors. In its relatively short existence, the choir has had a number of successful performances both at home and abroad, at charity events and at choral  competions. They have performed e.g. in: Italy, Germany,  Austria.

Encouraged by the success and the positive atmosphere governing  the Choir, they set new, bigger goals and plans for a better quality work to promote music culture and even present the Croatian musical heritage beyond the country´s  borders.

Forest Singers is mixed community choir in the heart of the beautiful Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire, South-West England.  They only began in March 2017 but have already grown to over 50 members.  The members  meet because they love singing and enjoy performing for various community groups.  Many of the choir  members can’t read music and have never sung in a choir before, however they have reached a very good standard with an interesting and varied repertoire. The Choir Director is Sarah Waycott who has turned a group of enthusiastic singers into a well-known and well-respected choir.  Their accompanist Anita Chaloner started the choir and works tirelessly to keep the choir fresh and vibrant.  They love making music together and also have a lot of fun.  Plus, they also have a lot of cake!

The Hungarian Baptist Central Choir was founded in 1957 – they like to sing compositions of world famous Hungarian composers that  have significant importance such as Ferenc Liszt, Zoltán Kodály, Béla Bartók, Lajos Bárdos, Gábor Lisznyay, Ferenc Farkas, Zoltán Gárdonyi etc.

The Choir „Arion”  was founded in 1965. It is a 4 voice male choir with 24 members. The choir is active within the Choral Association  ARION lead by  Eugeniusz Hyz.

The choir has a rich repertoire including secular, folk, patriotic as well as religious songs – mostly singing a capella. They have also performed  with a windbrass orchestra, string ensemble and other choirs during various cultural events, holy masses, charity concerts – both in Poland and abroad: in Lithuania, belarus, Slovakia or Ukraine. They have received many  awards at choral competitions and festivals.

The singing in the choir is one of the oldest traditions in the school. Choir singing is bringing together students from first to twelfth school year and give them opportunity to grow musically and creatively. As a part of Latvian choir culture traditions, mixed choirs are participating in annual school choir competitions and every five years participate  in Latvia's most prestigious choral competition  ''Choir Wars''. Beside the Song Festival and competitions, the choir performs  different concert programs at majority of the School's events and in other concert  venues.  The Mixed choir of Riga Secondary school No. 49 has participated in different choir festivals and projects: project ,,Latvian Summer of Culture in Slovakia; Latvian School Youth Song and Dance Festival, Latvian mixed choir reunion ''Mēs lidosim'' (We will fly); the World Choir Games 2014. The Choir also has participated in radio and TV recordings.
